Pediatrician Dr. Hadiza Bawa-Garba was found guilty of manslaughter by gross negligence in the death of Jack Adcock, a six-year-old boy. In 2011, Dr. Bawa-Garba worked in a crowded children’s ward with insufficient personnel and computer issues on her first day after a year off for maternity leave.
In caring for Jack, she made several mistakes, including failing to recognize sepsis and mistaking him for another patient. Jack perished in 2011 from sepsis. Her medical registration was later canceled. However, this judgment was eventually restored on appeal.
