What is required legally to practice medicine in Singapore?

In Singapore, all physicians must be licensed by the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) and have a current medical degree from an accredited university.

Medical Negligence & Medical Malpractice Lawsuits

A professional licensing exam, such as the Singapore Medical Council Examinations (SMCE), must also be passed, and they must abide by the SMC’s Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics.

To ensure they are up to date with the most recent advancements and industry best practices, the SMC also imposes a continuing medical education (CME) requirement on licensed medical professionals. The SMC may take disciplinary action if anyone fails to follow these guidelines.

Medical Negligence Highlight Misdiagnosis

Misdiagnosis occurs when a patient is given a diagnosis that is less serious when they actually have a more serious illness.

This can result in a patient receiving treatment that is either delayed or inadequate, which might lead to major injury. This kind of medical negligence can be brought about by a wide range of errors, including the failure to undertake appropriate diagnostic tests, the incorrect interpretation of test results, or the inability to take into account all pertinent symptoms.

The patient may get therapies that are ineffective or may experience a worsening of their disease as a result of the delay in seeking proper care as a result of a misdiagnosis. Either of these outcomes might result in considerable damage to the patient.
